Linux Marks First 3% Global Desktop OS Share

Linux Marks First 3% Global Desktop OS Share

Linux Breaks New Grounds: Now Running on 3% of All Desktop Computers

In a feat that would make any penguin proud, Linux has waddled its way onto over 3% of all desktop computers worldwide for the first time, according to stats from Statcounter. This milestone, which occurred in June, has been a long time coming, with Linux flirting with the 3% mark for quite some time. As of June, the operating system now runs on 3.08% of all desktop computers.

The OS Landscape

Unsurprisingly, Windows still dominates the desktop OS market with a whopping 68.2% share. This is followed by macOS at 21.3% and ChromeOS at 4.1%. However, in the land of ABBA and IKEA, the story is a bit different. In Sweden, Windows holds a 69.6% market share, macOS has 18.3%, ChromeOS has 9.1%, and Linux trails behind with a humble 1.2%.

Global OS Market

Globally across all platforms, Android remains the king with a 40.2% market share, followed by Windows (28.6%), iOS (16.8%), macOS (8.8%), and ChromeOS (1.7%). However, the Swedish market paints a different picture, with Windows leading the pack at 30.4%, trailed closely by iOS (30%), Android (26.1%), macOS (8%), and ChromeOS (4%).

The Art Conclusion

So, Linux may not be the belle of the OS ball yet, but it’s certainly making strides. Or should we say, waddles? Either way, it’s a step (or slide) in the right direction.

Now let’s drop a beat for our tech-savvy friends:

Linux on the rise, breaking the ice,
Windows may lead, but Linux’s increase ain’t nice,
From worldwide desktops to the heart of Sweden,
Linux keeps stepping up, it ain’t retreating.
